Why No Fuel Surcharges

None of the major cruise lines have implemented fuel surcharges even though the per-barrel prices have exceeded the baseline price they used to determine if an extra fee can be charged.

Carnival Cruise Lines -set its target price at $70 per barrel and NCL at $65 per barrel.  Carnival's website states that the surcharge can be up to $ 9 per person per day and NCL set theirs at up to $10 per day per person.

The major contributing factor has been the slow demand for cruises and adding a fuel surcharge would further weaken the demand. Many of the cruise lines have not cut their fares instead offering, on board credit, stateroom upgrades and even discounted shore excursions.
