On February 21, 2017, Meyer Werft cut steel for the first of two, next-generation, AIDA Cruise ships that will run completely on liquefied natural gas. The new class of ship, know as the Helios-Class, will weigh in at 183,900gt and is scheduled for delivery in December of 2018. Her first cruise is expected to sail to the Canary Islands. The 2018 newbuild is expected to be the 13th ship in the AIDA fleet.
A second LNG vessel is expected in the spring 2021.
