Built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique and launched in 1988, the Columbus was originally ordered for Sitmar Cruises as the FairMajesty but  entered service under the Princess Cruises banner as Star Princess. In 1997 the Star Princess was transferred to P&O Cruises and renamed Arcadia. She later became the Ocean Village in 2003.After Ocean Village ceased operations, the vessel was renamed Pacific Pearl under P&O Cruises Australia fleet, where she sailed until earlier this year.

The Columbus arrived in Rotterdam on May 13, 2017 bur work began as the ship sailed from Singapore to the Netherlands without passengers. Major work will include sanding and repainting the entire outside of the ship, including logos and colors to match the Cruise & Maritime Voyages livery. The ship will also undergo an internal modernization including the reduction on Children's spaces, because of CVM's more mature clientele and the creation of new and renewed public spaces.

Following the makeover the ship will sail to London Tilbury in early June for her naming ceremony and launch party on June 8, before commencing a summer season of ex-UK no fly cruises.
