Turkish tour operator ANEX Tour has entered into the cruise section by acquiring Saga Sapphire from Saga Cruises.

The cruise ship would be delivered to ANEX in mid-2020, and maiden voyage is to be scheduled from Antalya, making it a first as home port.

“With changing habits of travellers, we must adopt our product offering accordingly. By acquiring Saga Sapphire, we will be able to create a unique eastern Mediterranean cruise experience for our valued guests,” Neset Kockar, Chairman of ANEX Tour, said.

Saga Sapphire serves approximately 800 passengers with 382 cabins on 12 decks. The cruise ship features a length of 657 feet and 37,000 gross tons.

The sale of the Saga Sapphire is on the heels of Saga Cruises talking posession of 2 new ships - the Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure. 

The Saga Sapphire was originally built as the Europa (of 1981) for Hapag-Lloyd, the ship has a strong following and was known for her superior service and cuisine. She has since been sold to a number of operators including Asia's Star Cruises (as the SuperStar Aries) and her current operators Saga Cruises (as the Saga Sapphire).

Ponant French Cruises Acquires Paul Gauguin Cruises

Ponant Cruises has confirmed they have reached a deal to purchase Paul Gauguin Cruises. The deal will include the company as well as their single ship - the Paul Gauguin. The Paul Gauguin carries 332 guests and was first introduced in 1997.  Carrying the French theme even further, the ship was build at France's Chantiers de l'Atlantique Shipyard.


Ponant has been undergoing an aggressive expansion and by 2021, will have a luxury expedition fleet of four Boreal-class vessels; six Explorer-class vessels; Le Commandant-Charcot, a polar exploration vessel with hybrid propulsion; and Le Ponant, a niche sailing vessel.

It is expected that the Paul Gauguin will continue to sail under the Paul Gauguin Cruise brand and that Ponant will fund / foster expansion of their fleet. This expansion is expected by contributing existing tonnage and adding additional ports of call to the Paul Gauguin Cruises portfolio. The Paul Gauguin is expected to continue to sail 7 day cruises from Tahiti year-round with an occasional longer cruise.

Reports from sources indicate that the Norwegian cruise company Hurtigruten.has been denied by the Russian Government from entering northern waters above the Arctic circle above Russia.

Hurtigruten's Spitzbergen has been denied access to the Murmansk a port accessible via the Franz Josef Land - which is an archipelago of islands mainly inhabited by military equipment and personnel,

The Russian Government is said to be planning military exercises in the region and does not want outsiders video taping or reporting on the military actions.

The 250 passenger ship was denied access to the port 2 weeks before the anticipated start of the cruise. Hurtigruten is modifying their itinerary accordingly and is in the process of notifying booed passengers.

Prince Vladimir - Sails Extensive 2020 Cruise Program Through the Black Sea for Her Russian Speaking Gusests
Russia's Black Sea Cruises has released there most extensive program of cruises in the Black Sea in 2020. Offering some 36 cruises of varying length throughout the region. The cruise line is operating the Prince Vladimir which was built in 1971.
Originally built as an overnight ferry the Prince Vladimir has operated as the Eagle, Azur for Paquet Cruises and The Azur for Chandris Cruises, A gambling ship out of Florida and the Royal Iris for Israel's Mano Cruises. Although 49 years of age, the ship is reportedly in good shape and has gone through a number of renovations and upgrades over the years. The ship does not offer balcony accommodations but does offer inside and outside staterooms.

Black Sea Cruises marked the reentry of Russian into the cruise business after many year hiatus.

Phoenix Reisen's Amer is Christened in Bremerhaven




August 16, 2019 - German Cruise Operator - Phoenix Reisen has just christened the latest addition to their fleet. In a ceremony that included cruise line dignitaries, media and cruise industry personal the Amer was chistened along side in Bremerhaven.

Phoenix Reisen specializes in mid-aged, mid-sized ships and offers and informal, casual cruising experience for its German clientele.

The Amer previously operated as Holland America's Prinsendam, Seabourn Cruises Seabourn Sun and the Royal Viking Sun, the ship has emerged once again with an all white hull.

P&O Cruises Oriana has ended her carrer with P&O Cruises, when handed over to Asto Ocean Cruises. A Chinese joint venture between CTS (China Travel Service) and State owned shipping company COSCO.

Still sporting her dark blue funnel minus the P&O rising sun, the ship was renamed Piano Land on August 12th and departed the UK on August 16th. The 1,822-guest, 1995-built ship is expected to sail through the Mediterranean, Suez Canal and into the Indian Ocean on her way to China. THe ship is expected to make a stop in Greece for Technical work as well as upgrading.

The Piano Land is expected to arrive in Hong Kong in late September and premier to travel professionals and the press before beginning a series of short cruises from Shenzhen during October and November.

On Facebook V-Ships is actively recruiting hotel staff for the ship.
