P&O Cruises New LNG Powered Iona Begins Her Conveyance

At Meyer Werft Papenburg, Germany P&O Cruises' new Iona completed her conveyance down the Ems River to the open sea. The ship left the ship building facility this past Wednesday 3/18/20.

The spectacle of a giant ship moving in reverse through the narrow waterway, past cows grazing in meadows, usually draws thousands of onlookers to the riverbanks, bridges and locks.

Meyer Werft encouraged spectators to stay away due to the crowds that normally form and the Coronavirus.

The Iona is the next generation of P&O ship. She is LNG-powered ship

After the Iona arrive in Eemshaven, Netherlands, Thursday evening, she will remain dockside until her sea trials begin - which will exercise her technical and nautical capabilities on the North Sea.
